Warrant issued for school gun suspect Santa Fe Police have an arrest warrant out for a ninth-grade Santa Fe High School student who allegedly brought a BB gun to class and threatened another student with it last week. Sgt. Andrea Dobyns said police are looking for Caylee Mersereau. At about 3:45 p.m. Feb. 5, Mersereau allegedly threatened another student with a weapon and left the school, according to a police report. Dobyns said the girl has since been suspended from school. Dobyns said the girl allegedly pointed the weapon at a student and asked if the student wanted to die. Police eventually got the weapon, a BB gun which resembles a handgun, from the girl?s father. ?It?s very realistic, especially if you don?t know guns,? Dobyns said. They have not found the girl yet and the warrant is for charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and bringing a deadly weapon to a school campus.
City areas will be without water
Water will be shut off today for areas that include La Rambla, Camino Mirada, Calle del Resplandor, Calle Picacho and Camino de Cruz Blanca from Camino Cabra to Calle Picacho as the city installs a new, larger pressure-reducing valve for St. John?s College and the surrounding area. A larger water meter for the college also will be installed. Water is scheduled to be shut off between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The city water division is working to minimize the duration of outage.
Burn planned today at Bandelier
Weather permitting, the fire crew at Bandelier National Monument plans a burn today of wood in a fenced area near the park entrance along N.M. 4. The burn is planned to begin about 9 a.m. and should be finished by the end of the day. Although there will be only a relatively small amount of smoke, it may be visible from a wide area since the burn area is located on the top of the mesa.
Slash piles burning in Santa Fe Forest
The Santa Fe National Forest Cuba Ranger District began burning slash piles northwest of Fenton Lake and Seven Springs, a continuation of burns that took place in January. Smoke will be visible from Gillman, Jemez Pueblo, Jemez Springs, Cuba, Rio Rancho, and Albuquerque. Smoke from prescribed fire can be a nuisance to some people and a health concern for others. To reduce exposure to smoke, stay indoors as much as possible with windows, doors and vents closed. Avoid or limit physical activities outdoors.
