Spring cleaning for a home, also referred to as a one off clean, can either be carried out yourself or, if you want a high quality clean there are many companies that provide domestic cleaning, london having many of them.
Spring Cleaning
It?s not necessary to clean everywhere in your home every day. The counters and tables should be wiped of course, and the carpets and upholstery should be vacuumed, but there are also lots of places where dirt doesn?t build up quickly so a daily routine for them isn?t necessary.
For example, cupboards and drawers don?t get dirty often, at least not on the inside. It would take so much energy and time to take everything out of them every day, then clean them, then put it all back inside, that most people don?t bother. As they don?t get dirty much anyway it isn?t really necessary in any case.
Problems will arise if you fail to ever clean places like this though because after six months, or maybe a year, the dust and the dirt will have had time to grow to recognisable levels. That?s why regular routines should be complimented with the occasional spring clean.
Even if you were prepared to take the time to thoroughly clean every area every day, even the drawers and cupboards, there would still be one place that would still require a deep clean. That is your carpets. Of course they should be vacuumed every day, but that only takes up the surface dirt, leaving deeper levels untouched.
Carpet Cleaning
The deep cleaning of carpets is not something which should be part of a daily routine. As with the other normal aspects of a spring clean, it?s not really necessary because it takes time for dirt to build up beneath the surface. More than that though, some of these techniques are quite intense and if they were performed daily, your carpets would probably be damaged.
There are two categories in to which deep carpet cleaning can be put:
- Steam Cleaning. This is the best technique for most carpets because it actually washes the entire thing, all the way to the roots. To do this requires a special machine called a steam cleaner (or officially, a hot water extractor).
The way it works is that you put in hot water and detergent, set a pressure for this to come out at and then apply it in much the same way as a vacuum cleaner. You have to pay particular attention to the extraction of the water because if too much is left behind then the roots of the carpet could rot.
- Dry Carpet Clean. As a steam clean is so intense, using high pressure and high water temperatures, it?s not suitable for every kind of carpet and rug. When that?s the case, your best bet is to get dry cleaning instead.
All of the dry cleaning techniques actually do require some moisture, that?s the only way they can work at a deeper level. You?ll have three options as to the method you want to use. First of all there is foam, which contains its own moisture. Then there is cleaning powder or granules, which require you to first spray the carpet with water.
Do You Need To Use Professionals?
There?s no reason that you could not purchase a steam cleaner yourself and deep clean your carpet. However, they are expensive machines and you won?t have to use it very often, so it?s probably actually cheaper to use professional domestic cleaners, london having many as already stated.
