From Burghley to walking horses (no zebras, though) and a lot of juicy stuff in-between, as well as a touching tribute to an equestrian lost.

Saratoga wraps

Ya know, I?m going to miss my Saturday afternoon dose of racing on TV now that Summer at Saratoga via @NBCSports is over. Keeneland soon.

Actually, Autumn at Keeneland will air for two weekends starting Friday, Oct. 7 , on NBC Sports, either NBC or Versus but mostly on Versus. Check your local listings and this article from the Blood Horse for more information.

Burghley

Say ?burghley? to me, and my brain ?flashes to acres of broad tobacco leaves. You can take the girl out of Kentucky ? But the English have the Burghley Horse Trials.

Tennessee Walking Horses

For eleven days in late August with the final night being the Saturday night of Labor Day weekend, the Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration goes into full swing. Sometimes with both day and evening sessions. Between classes, other breeds and equestrian disciplines do demos. No doubt, they put the ?show? in ?horse show.?

Even I have trouble fitting in all the action, which gets the live pay-per-view treatment on the Internet. It?s a lotta programming, so I end up getting the Championship Weekend shows. Still, my inner clock takes a licking.

Stayed up late Fri and Sat to watch stake classes at walking horse celebration. My body likes night owling. Normal sked a struggle.

I tend to watch the last three nights on the Internet live feed. Classes can run up to 1 am EDT.? That?s about when Game World current World Grand Champion Aged Stallion stepped up for his roses.? He was a late bloomer, by walking horse standards, after having been a young ugly duckling.

Where walking horses tread, controversy follows. A checkered past with a tarnished present present makes a tempting target. Will Game World be the last of a college football halftime tradition? The UT athletic department has changing-of-the-guard, so PETA sees a window ?

Keeneland Sales

The food is good. The locale is gorgeous. Watching? Other People?s Money change hands is thrilling. You can go the morning if you have an afternoon flight out of LEX cuz it?s close to the airport. And you can sit where you don?t have to worry about scratching or sneezing and coming home with a living, breathing souvenir.
